Barb's Bounty Restaurant, Jams, and Jellies: Reviews & Ratings
Stopped in to Barbs for lunch and this place def needs more recognition! Everything homemade you can tell and delicious for an amazing price! I love to support small businesses and this one is no exception. I will try an eat here any time I’m in Chester! Oh and she also does specials!!! I got the crispy chicken sandwich, pulled pork sandwich- potato salad fries and chili cheese waffle fries.
Check their Facebook for daily specials! Highly recommend the chicken wild rice, grilled cheese, brownie, pulled pork sandwich, buffalo chicken wrap, French fries, and spaghetti dinner with garlic bread and green beans
Order the onion rings if you do nothing more here. I don't usually go around taking pictures of food. But this stuff was just astounding. As I said to my wife Dawne, this is the place I've been seeking for seventeen thousand miles in three months. This is a true mom and pop place. And, most importantly, the owners Barb and Gary are just wonderful. Not only did they name an excellent sandwich after me ("Kipp's Creo Burger," pronounced exactly the same as our name, Kriho), But they filled us to overflowing with local lore, history, and travel advice. If they call Missouri "The Show Me State," then here on this side of the river (if these two sweet people are anything to go by), I'd call illinois the "Tell Me State." Barb and Gary, you have no idea how cool it was to be chatting with you. I wish we had more time. Also. ALSO! Barb cooks up all manner of specialty jellies, many of which they have on hand right there. The food in this tiny (maybe three-table) restaurant is outstanding, inexpensive, and as far as we can tell, exactly as described on the menu. If you don't adore this place, then you must be dead, or they must be having a really really really really bad day. The owners are truly what makes up a place-- and especially this place.
We stopped in while visiting from out of town. We went off of pictures and the menu provided online. My 8 year old daughter picked this page because of the pink walls lol The pictures were a bit deceiving because it was a lot smaller than it looked. It literally had 3 tables, well 4, but 1 of them was stacked full of Tupperware for sale. And there was carpeting on the floor which kind of grossed me out a little, but it was after 2 o'clock and we were pretty hungry so we decided to stay. And honestly I'm glad we did because the lady running the place was super friendly, and the food was absolutely delicious! I can't remember the name of the burger I ordered, but it had grilled caramelized onions, bacon & cheese on it. It was one of the best burgers I've ever eaten in my 51 years! The fries were so crispy and a nice size portion. My daughter is a pretty picky eater and just ordered a bowl of watermelon, but she also ate about half of my fries and said both were so yummy. I would recommend eating here, but only at unusual times because of the lack of seating or just get it to go.
Perfect as it is. 10 seats. Personal service. Actual homemade food - Barb sliced and battered the onions before frying them perfectly. The grilled cheese was exactly like you’d make it at home. Straightforward delicious. Good prices. We only stopped in for a snack otherwise we would have gotten an entire Texas Sheet Cake for $5. We did leave with two pints of homemade jam: plum butter and nero aronia (had to look it up). Ten years and counting. Keep going, Barb.
Driving the Great River Road and need some home made food? Stop here! This place is delicious and affordable with different specials daily. Would recommend the pulled pork sandwich!
Stopped through on a cross country bike trip and it was the best food we have had! Everything was homemade even down to the hamburger buns! Barb was the sweetest and is an amazing cook. Felt like we were sitting in mom’s dining room.
It was an absolutely wonderful place the food was delicious everything was filling and fresh we traveled out of state just to try and were not disappointed we even bought one of her jams to go home with my daughter says out of five stars she gets a six!
